Rental contract as PDF: check, sign and store

1 min read·25 July 2026

Received or drawing up a rental agreement? PDF is the standard format for contracts. Here are the steps to correctly process, sign and store a rental contract PDF.

Check rental contract before signing

Read the contract thoroughly before signing. Check: rent amount, deposit amount, start date, notice periods, special provisions, maintenance obligations. If something is missing or unclear, ask the landlord for clarification.

Sign digitally

Use PDFrust's sign tool to add your signature. Draw digitally, type your name, or upload a photo of your signature. Make sure the signature is in the right location (typically on the last page and on every page requiring an initial).

Both parties signed

A rental agreement is only valid once both parties (tenant and landlord) have signed. Make sure you receive a signed copy from the landlord.

Archiving

Store the signed rental contract in a safe location — both digital (cloud, email) and physical. Have it to hand for any disputes, council registration, or allowance applications.

Addenda and attachments

Rental contracts sometimes have attachments: house rules, condition report, energy label. Merge them into one PDF via the merge tool for a complete file.
