Mix PDF page orientations: landscape and portrait in one document

Some documents have both portrait and landscape pages — reports with wide spreadsheets or technical appendices. Learn how to handle this in a PDF.

Why per-page rotation may be needed

A report may have 10 portrait pages (A4 portrait) followed by a wide spreadsheet created in landscape orientation (A4 landscape). When you merge or print this document the orientation does not match. By rotating specific pages you ensure each page faces the right direction.

Rotating pages in PDFrust

Merging documents with mixed orientation

If you want to merge two separate files — one in portrait and one in landscape — use the Merge tool. PDFrust preserves the orientation of each page from the source file. You do not need to rotate pages after merging if they are already correctly oriented in their source files.

Printing issues

Print dialogs (Windows, macOS) sometimes only show the orientation of the first page as default. Enable "Auto-rotate" in the print dialog to let the printer determine the correct orientation per page. In Adobe Reader: File → Print → Page Handling → Auto rotate and center.

Permanent rotation vs. view rotation

Some PDF viewers "rotate" a page only in the display without saving it to the file. PDFrust applies rotation permanently to the file. This is important when sharing documents — the rotation must be saved in the file, not just in the viewer setting.
