What are PDF form fields?

Many PDFs contain interactive fields: text boxes, checkboxes, dropdown menus and signature fields. These were created in software like Adobe Acrobat or InDesign. You can fill them in without "editing" the PDF — you only fill in the designated fields.

Fill in a plain PDF without fields

Not all PDFs have interactive fields. A scanned form or plain PDF won't have them. In that case you can add text as an overlay using the stamp or annotation feature. You type the text in the right place, but it's technically not a form field.

Checkboxes and multiple choice

Interactive checkboxes are simply clicked. For non-interactive forms, use a tick mark as a stamp at the right location. PDFrust supports both approaches.

Add a signature

After filling in the form, you typically add your signature. This can be a digital signature (drawn with mouse or finger) or an image. See the sign tool for full signature options.

Save and send

Download the completed PDF and send it by email or upload it to the required system. The fields are saved in the PDF — the recipient sees exactly what you filled in.
