How to add a signature to a PDF
2 min read·24 July 2026
You received a contract or form as a PDF and need to sign it. You do not need to print it, scan it and send it back — you place your signature directly in the browser.
How does drawing in the browser work?
PDFrust's sign tool lets you draw with your mouse or finger in a canvas box. Your signature is saved as a PNG image with a transparent background. Then you choose which page and position you want to place the signature on.
Is a PDF signature legally valid?
It depends on the use case. A simple image of a handwritten signature (as this tool produces) has the same legal status as a scanned signature — which is sufficient in most countries for everyday contracts. For legally strong signatures (eIDAS in Europe), qualified digital signatures through an accredited service are required.

Can I also type or use initials?
PDFrust's sign tool focuses on drawn signatures. If you prefer to type, you can use the text stamp tool to place your name on the signature line. Some documents also accept a typed name as a signature.
How do I save my signature for reuse?
PDFrust does not save your signature on a server. You can download the drawn signature as an image (via the stamp tool in PNG format) and save it on your own device to reuse later as a stamp.
