Set a photo or colour as PDF page background

1 min read·25 July 2026

Want to give a white PDF a coloured background, or add a subtle texture image behind the content? PDFrust lets you layer a background image or colour across all pages of a PDF.

When to add a background

Certificates and diplomas with a texture background. Invitations and event programmes with a pastel colour backdrop. Brochures where brand colour fills the background. Reports with a subtle watermark pattern as a design element.

Image as background

Upload your PDF to the stamp tool (for background images). Add your image as a semi-transparent layer that covers the full page. Low opacity (10–20%) creates a subtle background that doesn't compromise text readability.

Solid colour background

For a flat colour background: use the watermark tool with a coloured text set to very low opacity, or combine the margins tool with a colour swatch stamp. For complex colour work, DTP tools like Canva or InDesign are better suited.

Check readability

A background that is too dark or busy makes text hard to read. Test the result by printing and viewing on a monitor. A background that looks subtle on screen may appear darker on paper.
