Frequently asked questions
Does the watermark appear on every page?
Yes, the text is placed semi-transparent and diagonally across every page. There is no option to target a single page — if you need that, use the 'Add header or footer' tool for more control.
Can I customise the text, colour or size?
You choose the text yourself. The colour (light grey, semi-transparent) and diagonal angle are set to defaults for optimal readability of the underlying document. If you want a logo or image as a watermark, use the 'Stamp PDF' tool instead.
Can the watermark be removed?
The watermark is placed as a layer over the page content. With advanced PDF software an experienced user can remove it. If you want to protect the document from editing, combine it with password protection using the "Protect PDF" tool.
What are watermarks used for?
Watermarks are used to mark draft versions ("Draft"), label confidential documents ("Confidential"), indicate ownership (company name), or prevent a document from being mistaken for final when it is not yet.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your own browser. Your file never leaves your device and is not stored anywhere.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free, without watermark or account. The site is paid for by ads.

Why in the browser?
PDFrust runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and modern JavaScript libraries such as pdf-lib and PDF.js. Your file is never sent to a server — all processing happens locally on your device. This means your documents remain private by design, regardless of what they contain. There is no account required, no file size limit, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
