Why a special tool for duplex?

Not every printer supports automatic double-sided printing. With manual duplex you first print all odd pages, put the paper back reversed and then print the even pages. The correct order depends on your printer and how the paper feeds through.

How does the duplex tool work?

The tool splits your PDF into two files: one with the odd pages (1, 3, 5…) and one with the even pages (2, 4, 6…) in the correct order for your printer type. Print the first file, put the paper back as indicated and print the second file.

Which printer orientation do I choose?

The tool offers two options: long-edge binding (standard for portrait A4) and short-edge binding (for landscape documents or booklets). When in doubt, try long-edge first — it is correct for most documents.

How much paper do I save?

With double-sided printing you use half the paper. A 20-page PDF fits on 10 sheets. For larger documents the savings add up quickly, both in paper costs and in weight when you take the document with you.
