Make a folded booklet from PDF: automatic page ordering

1 min read·25 July 2026

Want to print a small booklet or brochure from a PDF? PDFrust's booklet tool reorders pages automatically so that after printing on both sides and folding, the pages read in the correct sequence.

How booklet layout works

In a booklet, pages are arranged in a specific order on sheets so that after folding, they read correctly. An 8-page A5 booklet on A4 requires pages 8, 1, 2, and 7 on sheet 1 (front and back), and pages 6, 3, 4, and 5 on sheet 2.

Create a booklet with PDFrust

Upload your PDF to the booklet tool. It automatically reorders pages into booklet sequence. Select the paper size (A4 for an A5 booklet). Download the reordered PDF and print it duplex (both sides).

Duplex printing settings

For a correct booklet, your printer must print duplex with "flip on short edge." This varies by printer — check your print dialogue settings or follow the duplex guide in PDFrust.

Great for small publications

Neighbourhood newsletters, school papers, event programmes, instruction manuals — anything you want to fold and staple into a compact booklet works well. Make sure your total page count is a multiple of 4; use the blank pages tool to pad if needed.
