How to print a PDF double-sided (duplex)

1 min read·25 July 2026

Printing double-sided saves paper and looks more professional. With PDFrust's duplex tool you can set how pages should be combined for double-sided printing — even if your printer doesn't support it automatically.

Duplex: long or short edge

There are two variants for double-sided printing. "Bind along the long edge" is the standard for A4 documents (like a book). "Bind along the short edge" is used for landscape mode or calendars (the back is upside down so you flip the sheet like a notepad).

Does your printer lack automatic duplex? Upload your PDF in the duplex tool. PDFrust reorders the pages so you can print double-sided manually: first the odd pages, then the even pages in reverse order.

Preparing PDF for a print shop

Professional printers sometimes expect a "printer spread" or specific page sequence. The duplex tool delivers the right format. For booklets use the booklet tool.

Save paper

Printing double-sided halves paper consumption. Also want multiple PDF pages per sheet? Combine duplex with the NUp tool (2-up or 4-up) for maximum paper savings.
