Add page numbers to a PDF
1 min read·23 July 2026
A long PDF without page numbers is hard to navigate and discuss. With PDFrust you add clean page numbers to every page in one step — free, without upload.
Why add page numbers?
Page numbers make a document more professional and easier to use. During meetings you can easily refer to a specific page. When printing you always know the correct page order.
How does the tool work?
Drag your PDF to the page numbers page. Choose the position (left, centre or right at the bottom) and click add. Numbers are placed directly into the PDF, starting at 1 on the first page.

Can I customise the formatting?
You can choose the position (left, centre or right) and font size. The font matches the rest of the tool: clean and readable. For more formatting control, the header/footer tool is a good alternative.
What if numbers are already in the document?
Check your document for existing numbers first. If they are already there, the tool will add a second set. In that case it is better to remove existing numbers first or use the flatten tool.
