Add header and footer to a PDF

1 min read·23 July 2026

Want the document title at the top or page numbers at the bottom of every page? With PDFrust's header/footer tool you add a consistent header and footer to your entire PDF in one step.

What can you put in the header or footer?

Typical header content is the document title, author or department. A footer often contains page numbers, a date or a confidentiality clause. You can also set a combination of fixed text and automatic page numbers.

How does the tool work?

You type the desired text for the header (top) and footer (bottom), choose the position (left, centre or right) and font size. The tool places the text on every page at a consistent location, outside the existing content.

Difference from adding page numbers?

The page numbers tool only adds numbers at a fixed position. The header/footer tool gives you more control: you can choose the position (left/centre/right), set multiple text fields and combine custom text with the page number.

Can I remove the header later?

Once added, the header and footer are part of the PDF content. They cannot be selectively removed without re-rendering the page. Always keep a copy of the original PDF before adding headers.
