Set PDF headers and footers: combine text, date, and page numbers
1 min read·25 July 2026
Professional PDFs include a header with the document title and a footer with page number and date. PDFrust adds customisable headers and footers to all pages of any PDF in one step.
What to put in headers and footers
Header: document title, company name, version number, or "CONFIDENTIAL". Footer: page number, date, copyright notice, or a legal disclaimer. You can combine multiple elements on a single line.
How to add header and footer
Open the headerFooter tool and upload your PDF. Type the desired text for the header (top) and footer (bottom). Choose position (left, centre, right), font, and size. Insert automatic variables like [PAGE] or [DATE] that are substituted with the correct value per page.

Skip the cover page
Want the header to start on page 2 to preserve the cover page layout? Set the starting page number in the tool so the header/footer is only applied from the chosen page onward.
Header/footer vs. page numbers tool
The page numbers tool adds only a number at one position. The headerFooter tool is more powerful: combine text, date, and page number in both header and footer, each at their own position (left/centre/right) with independent formatting.
