How to add a header and footer to a PDF
1 min read·25 July 2026
A professional PDF has a consistent header with company name or document title, and a footer with page number and date. With PDFrust you can add them to any PDF in a few clicks.
What are headers and footers for?
Headers and footers make a document recognisable and easy to navigate. Use them for reports, quotes, annual reports, and manuals. With PDFrust's headerFooter tool you control the text, font, alignment, and which pages they appear on.
What can you configure?
You choose the text for left, centre, and right in both the header and the footer. Dynamic fields are available: {pagenumber}, {total}, {date}. This gives you automatic "Page 3 of 12" without manual editing.

Page numbers vs. headerFooter tool
Just want to add page numbers? Use the faster numbers tool. Need text, a logo, or multiple fields? Then the headerFooter tool is the right choice.
Overwriting existing headers
If your PDF already has headers and you want to replace them, first use the flatten tool to "bake" the existing content, then add new headers via headerFooter.
