How to view PDF file information and metadata

1 min read·23 July 2026

Want to know how many pages a PDF has, which program created it, or whether it is protected? The Info tool on PDFrust gives you that information instantly without uploading the file.

What information does the tool show?

The Info tool shows the page count, page size (in mm and points), PDF version, creation date and the application that created the document (e.g. Word, InDesign, Acrobat). You also see whether the file is encrypted or protected.

What is it useful for?

Received a PDF and not sure of its origin? With the Info tool you can immediately see whether it was created by a scanner, an office application, or an online tool. Also handy when you want to verify that the page size is indeed A4 before sending it to a printer.

Can I also edit the metadata?

The Info tool is read-only. To change the author name, title, subject, and other metadata use the Metadata tool on PDFrust.

Is my data stored?

No. The Info tool reads the file entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server. After closing the tab there is no trace of your file.
