Remove PDF password: when is it allowed and how?

Password-protected PDFs can be frustrating if you've lost the password or no longer need the protection. PDFrust can unlock protected PDFs when you have the password or are the rights holder.
Two types of PDF protection
(1) Opening password: you can't open the PDF without a password. (2) Permission password: the PDF can be opened but certain actions (printing, copying, editing) are blocked. The unlock tool focuses on removing permission restrictions.
When can you unlock a PDF?
You may unlock a PDF if: you own the document, you have the opening password, you have the rights to edit it (contract, licence). It is not permitted to crack other people's protected files.

How does unlocking work?
Upload the protected PDF and enter the password (if required). PDFrust removes the security layer and returns a new PDF without restrictions. The document content doesn't change.
Forgotten password?
If you've lost the opening password and can't open the PDF at all, PDFrust cannot help — this requires specialised forensic software. Contact the person who sent the document.
After unlocking
Save the unlocked PDF in a secure location. If the document contains sensitive information, consider re-securing it after editing.
