Remove a password from a PDF

1 min read·23 July 2026

Have a protected PDF whose password you no longer need? If you still know the password you can easily remove the protection. PDFrust does this for free in your browser.

Why is a PDF protected?

PDF files can have an opening password (you cannot open the file without a password) or an editing password (you can open the file but not print or edit it). The PDFrust unlock tool works for both types.

How do you remove a PDF password?

Drag your protected PDF onto the page, enter the current password and click unlock. You get back a new PDF without password protection, so you can freely edit, print and share it.

What if I do not know the password?

PDFrust cannot guess or crack a forgotten password. Specialised programs exist for that. If you still know the password but want to remove the protection for convenience, the unlock tool works immediately.

Is this safe?

Yes. Your PDF is not uploaded to a server. Everything is processed in your browser. Your password and your document never leave your device.
