How to add a border to PDF pages

1 min read·25 July 2026

A decorative or functional border around PDF pages gives a document a professional look. With PDFrust's border tool you add a border without installing any software.

When do you use a border?

A border is useful for diplomas, certificates, recipes and decorative documents. But also functional: some printers require a 3 mm 'bleed' (trim mark) that shows as a light border as a cutting guide.

Border tool in PDFrust

Open the border tool on PDFrust. Upload your PDF. Choose the width of the border (in mm or pt), the colour (hex colour code or colour picker) and the line style (solid, dotted or dashed). Click Add and download the result.

Border vs. margin

The border tool draws a line around the page content. The margins tool adds white space. Want both a border and white space? First add margins via the margins tool and then add a border with the border tool.

Border for certificates

Creating a diploma or certificate as a PDF? Combine the border tool with the stamp tool (for text or logo) and the watermark tool (for a background image or pattern) for a fully formatted official document.
