PDF guide for urban planners and spatial designers

2 min read·31 December 2026

Urban planners work with zoning plans, spatial visions, environment plans, and project presentations. PDFrust helps with compiling, annotating, and professionally presenting all these spatial documents.

Bundle a zoning plan

A zoning plan consists of the plan map, rules, explanatory note, and appendices. Merge all components into one navigable PDF document. Add bookmarks for "Plan Map", "Rules", "Explanatory Note", and each appendix. This simplifies digital review for residents and the competent authority.

Insert plan maps and drawings

Urban plan maps are exported from AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or Adobe Illustrator as large PDFs. Insert maps at the correct page in the report. Check that the scale remains legible after insertion — enlarge the page size if necessary.

Archive public participation documents

Objections from residents and agencies are received as letters or PDFs. Merge all received objections into one archive dossier. Add the municipal response per objection as an annotation or separate page. This simplifies processing in the response report.

Export and compress presentations

Urban planning presentations contain many images and maps — they quickly become large. Export your presentation as PDF from PowerPoint or Keynote. Then compress the file for email delivery or online placement (aim for less than 5 MB).

Structure the environment plan

Under new planning legislation, zoning plans become environment plans. The structure and cross-references are more complex. Use bookmarks and a table of contents in PDFrust to make the environment plan PDF navigable for all involved parties.
