PDF too large for email: how to fix it

1 min read·25 July 2026

Trying to email a 20 MB PDF? Most email services have a limit of 10-25 MB. With PDFrust you compress the PDF to a fraction of its original size — so you can send it without problems.

What are the limits?

Gmail and Outlook have an attachment limit of 25 MB. WhatsApp allows 100 MB. Some corporate mail servers apply stricter limits (10 MB). Multi-page scanned PDFs quickly grow past those limits.

Compress with PDFrust

Upload the oversized PDF to the compress tool on PDFrust. Choose the desired quality level (medium is sufficient in most cases) and click Compress. Download the result and check the file size before sending.

Still too large?

If the PDF is still too large after compression, there are two options: split the PDF into several smaller files (email each part separately), or use a file-sharing service like WeTransfer or Google Drive and send a link.

Check the quality

Open the compressed PDF after downloading to verify that text and images are still readable. At medium quality the result is fine for the vast majority of use cases.
