How to open a PDF without Adobe Reader or extra software

You do not need Adobe Reader or any other program to open a PDF. All modern browsers, phones, and operating systems can open PDFs natively. Here is how to do it on every device.

Windows 11 and 10

Windows has a built-in PDF viewer in Microsoft Edge. Double-click a PDF file and it opens automatically in Edge. You can also right-click → Open with → Edge. No installation needed.

Mac and iPhone/iPad

On macOS Preview opens every PDF — double-click or drag the file onto the app. On iPhone and iPad tap the PDF in Mail, Files, or Safari; it opens immediately in the built-in viewer.

Android
