PDF not printing: common causes and fixes

1 min read·25 July 2026

Your PDF refuses to print — blank pages, stuck printer, error message, or missing fonts. These are the most common causes and the simplest solutions.

Blank pages when printing

This happens with PDFs that have transparency layers or vector images the printer cannot handle. Solution: print as image. In Adobe Acrobat: Advanced > Print as image. In Edge: no direct option — compress the PDF via PDFrust first (that flattens layers).

Printer gets stuck

Large PDFs or PDFs with high-resolution images can freeze a printer with limited memory. Compress the PDF via PDFrust before trying to print again. Turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Fonts missing or look strange

If the PDF creator did not embed the fonts, your printer cannot find them. Ask for a new version with embedded fonts, or print as image.

Error: "File not supported"

Some older printers do not support newer PDF versions. Compress the PDF via PDFrust — the output file uses a broadly compatible PDF version.
