PDF guide for environmental technologists and consultants

2 min read·14 August 2026

Environmental technologists produce environmental impact assessments, air quality studies, and soil investigation reports submitted as permit basis to the environmental authority. Accurate PDF handling is essential for dossier integrity.

Bundling EIA reports for the environmental authority

An environmental impact assessment consists of a summary, alternatives analysis, discipline reports (noise, air, water, soil), and annexes. Merge all sections in the fixed sequence prescribed by the environmental authority. Add a bookmark structure per discipline so assessors can navigate directly to the relevant chapter.

Archiving soil investigation reports

NEN 5740 reports, laboratory results, bore logs, and groundwater analysis results together form the soil investigation dossier. Compress the combined file and ensure field forms are OCR-searchable. Upload the archived dossier to the national soil register in the required PDF/A format.

Securing air quality reports for submission

Calculations from dispersion modelling tools are submitted as PDF reports to the competent authority. Secure the report as a non-editable document to prevent calculated deposition values being altered after signing. Add the digital signature of the certified environmental expert on the closing page.

Splitting monitoring reports per location

For large infrastructure projects, a monitoring report may cover dozens of measurement points. Split the report per measurement location so each client receives only the report for their parcel, without other measurement data being visible.

Compressing technical annexes

GIS map overviews, aerial photographs, and geotechnical cross-sections can significantly increase the file size of an EIA. Compress these annexes to a workable file size without losing the cartographic detail needed for assessment by the EIA committee.
