Add margins to a PDF

Is text too close to the edge of your PDF page? Or do you want space for annotations? With PDFrust's margins tool you add white space on all sides without distorting the content.

When do you want to add margins?

Documents created without margins — such as scanned forms or auto-generated reports — sometimes run right to the edge. When printing, content can get cut off. Adding margins creates a buffer around the content.

How does the margins tool work?

You set the desired margin for left, right, top and bottom (in millimetres). The tool enlarges the page size by those values and places the original content centred. The content itself is not scaled or distorted.

Difference from cropping?

Cropping removes space (makes the page smaller). Adding margins adds space (makes the page larger). Both tools are available on PDFrust and can be combined: first crop to remove unwanted white space, then add margins for a uniform border.

Does the page size stay the same?

No. The page size gets larger. If you have an A4 page (210×297 mm) and add 10 mm margins on all sides, the new page becomes 230×317 mm. This is intentional: the content does not scale, the page grows with it.
