Analyse PDF: colour space, resolution, dimensions

1 min read·25 July 2026

Need to deliver a PDF to a printer or platform with specific technical requirements? PDFrust's info tool gives you a complete technical overview in seconds — colour space, resolution, compression, page dimensions.

Technical specs printers ask for

Printers typically specify: colour space (RGB for digital, CMYK for offset), resolution (minimum 300 DPI for print), PDF version, page format with and without bleed, and whether the file is flattened. The info tool shows all these values.

Check colour space

Most PDF creators produce RGB files (for screen). Offset print shops require CMYK. If the info tool shows "RGB" but your printer needs "CMYK," you need to re-export from your design software (Illustrator, InDesign, Canva) with CMYK colour settings.

PDF version and compatibility

Older PDF versions (1.4, 1.5) are more compatible but lack modern features. PDF 1.7 is the most widely used standard. PDF 2.0 is newer but less broadly supported. The info tool shows the version so you can spot compatibility issues early.

File size and compression efficiency

The info tool shows file size and total page count. Combine with the word count tool for a complete overview. If the file is unexpectedly large, use the compress tool to reduce it.
