Scan and merge PDFs at home — the best method step by step

You scan multiple documents at home and want to combine them into one PDF. Or you have a stack of pages scanned in the wrong order. This guide covers the best workflow for home scanning and merging.

Method 1: printer-scanner combination

Most printers have an ADF (automatic document feeder) that scans multiple pages in sequence. Scan the entire document at once as a PDF. Save. Done — no merging needed. Tip: always scan at 300 dpi for readable text.

Method 2: smartphone scanning app

Apps like Microsoft Lens, Adobe Scan and Apple Notes scan each page and automatically combine them into one PDF. Lay the pages in the correct order on a table, scan them one by one in the same session, and export as PDF. Simple method without a dedicated scanner.

Merge loose PDF scans
