Every PDF contains hidden metadata: author name, organisation, creation date, software version. Before sharing a document, wipe this information with PDFrust's metadata tool to protect your privacy.
What metadata is stored in a PDF?
Standard PDF metadata includes: author (often your full name or computer username), organisation (from Office settings), creation date and time, last modification date, software name and version (e.g. "Microsoft Word 365"), and sometimes keywords or comments.
Why this is a privacy concern
When sending a quote with your name embedded — that's fine. But for anonymously shared documents, whistleblower information, or personal files, unintended metadata can reveal your identity, employer, or editing timeline.

How to check existing metadata
In Adobe Acrobat: File → Properties → Description. In a browser PDF viewer: check document properties. PDFrust's info tool also shows a full metadata overview for any PDF you upload.
Wipe metadata with PDFrust
