PDF redaction: permanently remove personal information

National ID numbers, names, addresses, bank accounts — sensitive information in a PDF sometimes needs to be obscured before sharing. PDFrust permanently redacts text with black bars.
What is redaction?
Redaction is the permanent removal of sensitive information from a document. Placing a black rectangle over text in a PDF viewer is NOT safe — the text still exists and can be selected. Real redaction permanently removes the underlying text.
What needs redacting?
Common redaction cases: national ID/social security numbers, bank account numbers (IBAN), passport photos or ID numbers on identity documents, medical diagnoses that must not be shared, salaries in contracts, personal addresses.

How the redaction tool works
Select the text to redact or draw a rectangle over the area. PDFrust removes the underlying data and places a black bar that cannot be removed. This is a permanent operation on the output file.
Verification after redaction
Always check after redaction: try to select the redacted text in a PDF viewer. If you can, the redaction has not been successful — repeat with a proper redaction tool. With PDFrust, the text is permanently removed.
