PDF guide for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
2 min read·17 December 2026
Pharmacists process prescriptions, patient information leaflets, dispensing records, and correspondence with prescribers. PDFrust helps with merging, protecting, and archiving all these documents.
Merge medication information leaflets
When dispensing medication, a package leaflet or information sheet is required. If you dispense a set of multiple medicines to a patient, merge all information sheets into one PDF document. This is clearer for the patient and proves the duty to inform has been met.
Archive prescriptions as PDF
Scanned prescriptions must be retained long-term under medicines legislation. Use the OCR tool to make scanned prescriptions searchable. Merge all prescriptions for one patient into a chronological archive file. Protect the file with a password to prevent unauthorised access.

Generate a dispensing record
When delivering medicines to care institutions, a dispensing record is mandatory. Create a dispensing record as PDF by completing the form, adding a stamp, and signing the document. Flatten the final document so it is no longer editable.
Correspondence with prescribers
Letters to GPs and specialists about medication changes, dosage advice, or interactions are sent as PDF. Use PDFrust to optimise Word documents or scanned letters for digital transmission: compress large attachments and verify readability before sending.
Redact patient data for audits
During internal or external quality audits, patient-identifying data must be anonymised. Use the Redact tool to permanently remove names and patient numbers from the version provided for review. Always keep an original, non-redacted version in the secure archive.
