PDF tools for legal practice
1 min read·25 July 2026
Lawyers and legal professionals work daily with contracts, case files, and confidential documents. These PDFrust tools are essential for a professional and GDPR-compliant PDF workflow.
Redacting sensitive data
When sharing case files, witness statements, and rulings, personal names, ID numbers, and addresses of third parties must be removed. The redact tool permanently removes text — including the underlying text layer — so no data is accidentally exposed.
Signing and archiving contracts
Use the formFill tool to fill in contract fields, the sign tool for the signature, and the flatten tool to permanently fix everything. The result is an uneditable, signed contract ready for archiving or returning to the client.

Merging and splitting large case files
A case file consists of dozens of individual PDFs. Merge them into one continuous document with the merge tool, add page numbers with numbers, and save it in an orderly way. Conversely: splitting a large judgement by section is done with the split tool on page ranges.
Remove metadata for external parties
PDFs from Word or InDesign automatically contain the author name and office name. When sharing draft documents with opposing parties or the court, use the metadata tool to remove all personally identifiable metadata.
