Architecture and construction drawings have specific PDF requirements: large formats, scalability and color. Learn how to optimally manage technical drawings as PDFs.

Large formats: A1, A0 and plotter formats

Construction drawings are traditionally drawn on A1 (594 × 841 mm), A0 (841 × 1189 mm) or even larger plotter formats. If you receive a drawing PDF in A0 format it cannot be printed directly on office printers. Use the Resize tool to scale an A0 drawing down to A3 or A4 for office use, or use the Poster tool to split a large drawing across multiple A4 sheets.

The Poster tool splits a large drawing across multiple A4 sheets that you can print and tape together. Choose how many sheets wide and tall the drawing should be. Overlapping margins are created so the sheets align perfectly. Ideal if you do not have a plotter.

Maintaining scale

Construction drawings have a fixed scale (e.g. 1:100, 1:50). When you resize the format, the scale changes. Always keep the original drawing and make a separate copy for the adjusted format. Always note the new scale in the document after adjustment.

Merging multiple drawings

A construction project consists of dozens of drawings: floor plans, sections, elevations, details. Use the Merge tool to bundle all drawings into one comprehensive PDF package. Also add a table of contents page as the first sheet for navigation.

Adding stamps and revision numbers

Construction drawings are validated with a stamp (office name, date, revision number). Use the Stamp tool on PDFrust to add a text stamp or image to every page. Combine this with page numbers for a professional drawing package.
