PDF lookbook for fashion and design: from concept to client presentation
2 min read·25 July 2026
A lookbook is the creative calling card of a fashion designer, photographer or styling agency. A well-designed PDF version gives you the freedom to share with buyers, press and clients while retaining control over layout and sequence.
Choosing the format for a lookbook
Fashion lookbooks are traditionally presented in portrait A4 or square (21 x 21 cm). Digital lookbooks for tablets work better in landscape format — 16:9 or 4:3. Square works well for social media-style presentations. Choose a consistent format — never mix portrait and landscape in the same lookbook.
Image quality and colour
Fashion photography deserves the highest image quality. Use images of at least 150 DPI for the screen version, 300 DPI for the print version. sRGB colour profile for digital distribution. Colour correction is crucial: fabric that is cream in real life must also look cream in the PDF, not yellow or white.

Typography and layout
Minimal and clean is the golden principle for fashion lookbooks. Use a maximum of two typefaces. White (or black) as the dominant background lets the photo speak. Add collection name, season and date on every spread. Page numbers are optional for lookbooks — some buyers prefer numbering for internal use.
Adding product information
Trade buyers and retailers want product numbers, material composition and available sizes. Add this information on separate pages or as a footnote under each spread. Do not overload visual pages with text — maintain visual primacy. Add a product index at the end.
Compressing for email and WeTransfer
A fashion lookbook with high-quality photos quickly reaches 50–200 MB. Create two versions: a high-quality version (for print and presentation) and a compressed version (under 10 MB for email). Use PDFrust to compress the images without visible quality loss. Send the compressed version as first contact, high quality on request.
Protection and watermarks
Lookbooks are shared with buyers but also leak to competitors. Add a subtle watermark in the corners of each page — not conspicuous but traceable in case of unauthorised distribution. Also state "Confidential — not for reproduction" in the footer. Always save originals as non-editable PDF.
