PDF guide for intellectual property specialists and IP attorneys

2 min read·11 March 2027

Intellectual property specialists handle patent applications, trademark registrations, licence agreements, and infringement files. With PDFrust all these legal documents can be safely compiled, protected, and archived.

Compile a patent application

A patent application consists of the description, claims, drawings, and abstract. Merge all components in the order required by the patent office. Verify that drawings are attached as high-resolution PDFs. Stamp the final document with the filing date.

Archive trademark files

A trademark file contains the application, correspondence with the trademark office, evidence of use, and monitoring reports. Merge all documents chronologically per trademark registration. Use bookmarks per class or registration number for quick retrieval.

Protect licence agreements

Licence agreements contain confidential royalty rates and exploitation territories. After signing: flatten the document (signatures permanent), protect it with a password, and restrict printing. Send the protected file only to authorised parties.

Build infringement dossiers

In infringement proceedings, evidence is gathered: screenshots, product images, detection agency reports. Merge all evidence into an infringement dossier per defendant. Annotate the most relevant items. Add a stamp with the date of collection to each exhibit.

Optimise patent drawings

Patent drawings must meet strict technical requirements (black-and-white, resolution, margins). Export drawings from CAD or vector software as PDF and verify the specifications. Attach drawings as a separate annex to the patent application for easy replacement when changes are needed.
