Insert PDF into Word or PowerPoint — best methods for every situation
2 min read·25 July 2026
Need to insert a PDF document or PDF page into a Word document or PowerPoint presentation? There are several ways to do it — each with pros and cons. Here are the best methods for each situation.
Insert PDF into Word as an object
In Word, go to "Insert" → "Object" → "Create from File". Browse to your PDF and click OK. The PDF appears as an object in the document — clickable but not editable as text. Useful as an attachment within the Word document, but takes up more space.
Insert PDF as image into Word
Convert the PDF page to JPG or PNG first (use PDFrust: PDF to JPG) then insert the image via "Insert" → "Picture". Advantage: always visible, layout-safe. Disadvantage: text in the image is not searchable or editable.

Insert PDF into PowerPoint
PowerPoint has no direct PDF import function. Best approach: export the PDF as an image (via PDFrust) and add it as a slide background or image element. Alternatively, use "Insert" → "Object" → "Adobe Acrobat Document" if Acrobat is installed.
Copy PDF text into Word
Just want the text? Open the PDF in a browser or viewer, select the text and paste (Ctrl+V) into Word. Works well for simple text without formatting. For scanned PDFs, run OCR in PDFrust first to make the text selectable before copying.
Multiple PDF pages into Word
For multiple pages: export each page as an image in PDFrust (PDF to JPG, all pages) and insert them one by one. Or attach the complete PDF document as a single icon object within the Word file.
