Flatten PDF: make forms, signatures and annotations permanent

A flattened PDF has no separate layers — everything is merged into one static image. Ideal for final versions that must not be modified.
What does flatten do?
Flattening merges all layers of a PDF into one static layer. Interactive elements — fillable form fields, signatures, annotations, stamps, watermarks — are permanently embedded in the page. They can no longer be selected or removed as separate layers.
When to use flatten?
Flattening is essential for: final contracts (signature cannot be removed), forms that are completely filled in and must not be changed, PDFs for archiving where the visual appearance must be permanent, watermarks that must not be removed.

Forms after flattening
After flattening, form fields are no longer interactive. Filled values appear as static text — but nobody can change them anymore. Use this deliberately: flatten a form only after all fields are correctly filled in.
Irreversible
Flattening is an irreversible operation on the output file. Your original PDF file on your computer is not changed — but from the downloaded, flattened file you cannot recover the layers.
File size after flattening
Flattened PDFs are sometimes larger (more raster data) and sometimes smaller (no layer metadata). Use the compress tool after flattening for optimal file size.
