HEIC photos from iPhone to PDF: conversion steps

2 min read·25 July 2026

HEIC photos from your iPhone are not always compatible with other software. Learn how to convert them to PDF or JPG.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones from iOS 11 onwards. HEIC files are smaller than JPEG at equivalent quality — up to 50% smaller. Downside: older Windows versions, many websites and PDF editors do not support HEIC without separate software.

Convert HEIC to PDF via PDFrust

PDFrust supports HEIC files. Upload your HEIC photo to the JPG to PDF tool (PDFrust converts automatically). Download the resulting PDF. If you have multiple HEIC photos, upload them all at once for a multi-page PDF.

Convert HEIC to JPG first

If you also want to use the photos outside PDF, convert them to JPG first. Use the Convert Images tool on PDFrust to convert HEIC to JPG. Download the JPG files. You can then use them as regular JPEGs in other programs.

Set iPhone to capture JPEG

Want to prevent your iPhone from taking HEIC photos? Go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. iPhone will then take JPEG photos. Note: photos will be larger but work directly in all software. Existing HEIC photos are not automatically converted.

Bundle multiple iPhone photos

Want to create a photo report or documentation from iPhone photos? Convert all HEICs to one PDF via the JPG to PDF tool. Sort photos by date (most files sort automatically by name if they use iPhone's naming convention: IMG_xxxx). Merge the PDF with a text document for a complete report.
