PDF guide for chartered accountants, CPAs, and auditors
1 min read·10 December 2026
Chartered accountants process financial statements, audit opinions, management letters, and audit programmes. With PDFrust those documents are professionally formatted, securely archived, and quickly shareable.
Compile an audit file
An audit file contains the engagement letter, risk assessment, audit programmes per account, management letter, and auditor's report. Merge all components into one PDF in the correct order. Stamp each document with the client ID, financial year, and version date.
Add annotations to financial statements
When auditing financial statements, comments are added. Use the stamp tool to add "REVIEWED" or "APPROVED" to pages that have been assessed. Add the responsible auditor's signature using the sign tool.

Finalise the audit opinion
The auditor's report must be delivered unmodifiable. Use the flatten tool to permanently embed all annotations and form fields. Then secure the document with the protect tool (no editing permitted, reading allowed).
Compress large files
Large audit files with many attachments (bank statements, contracts, invoices) can be hundreds of MB. Compress the final file for storage in the DMS or for delivery to the client.
Redact sensitive client data for internal reviews
During internal quality assurance reviews, files are assessed by other partners. Use the redact tool to remove client-identifying information in the version circulated for peer review — in line with professional ethics requirements.
