PDF-A for long-term archiving
Research data needs to be preserved for decades. PDF-A is the ISO standard for archiving: it embeds all external dependencies (fonts, colour profiles) so the file will still render correctly in 2050. Always submit your thesis as PDF-A, not as a regular PDF.
Annotating and highlighting literature
Use consistent colour codes when annotating papers: yellow = core argument, green = methodology, red = critique, blue = statistics. This makes finding specific passages much faster later. PDFrust lets you flatten annotations before sharing a paper, keeping your personal notes private.

Adjusting metadata for publication
Journals require correct metadata in PDF manuscripts: author names, affiliations, keywords and title must match the submission system. Check and edit PDF metadata via PDFrust before submitting — metadata errors cause delays in the review process.
Images and figures in scientific PDF
Scientific journals have strict figure resolution requirements: minimum 300 DPI for graphs, 600 DPI for line figures. Do not compress images too aggressively — use PDFrust's compression with a high quality setting to reduce file size without losing resolution.
