Why PDFrust?

Most PDF tools on the internet require you to upload your file to an external server. That raises questions: who can see my file? How long is it stored? What if it is a contract, a tax return, or a medical report?

PDFrust is different. All processing — merging, splitting, compressing, signing, converting — takes place in your own browser, on your own device. The server that receives your files simply does not exist, because we do not have one for that purpose.

The result: you are the only one who ever sees your file. Not us, not our servers, nobody.

How does it work technically?

The tools are built with modern web technologies such as WebAssembly, the File System Access API and JavaScript libraries including pdf-lib, PDF.js and Tesseract.js. These libraries run entirely in the browser — they are designed to perform heavy operations without needing a server.

When you open a PDF, the browser reads it into memory. The tool then processes the file locally. The result is offered as a download directly from browser memory. As soon as you close the tab, everything is gone.

For larger files or complex operations such as OCR (text recognition), processing may take a moment. That is normal: your device is doing the work that a server would otherwise do.

What can you do with PDFrust?

PDFrust offers more than 30 tools for everything around PDF files:

• Merge and split — Combine multiple PDFs or extract individual pages.
• Compress — Reduce file size without noticeable quality loss.
• Edit — Add text, images, page numbers or a watermark.
• Convert — From image to PDF, from Word to PDF, or PDF to image.
• Protect and unlock — Set or remove password protection.
• Sign — Place a signature on a PDF.
• OCR — Recognise text in scanned documents so you can search and copy.

All tools are completely free, with no limit on file size or number of operations.

Who is PDFrust for?

PDFrust is built for everyone who occasionally needs to do something with a PDF — without wanting to take out a subscription for a tool they use once a month.

At home you use it to merge a tax return, sign a contract, or compress a scan before emailing it. At work you use it for presentations, reports or forms without confidential files passing through an external server.

For students it is handy to merge thesis chapters or organise notes. For freelancers to edit quotes and invoices without installing extra software.

Ads and privacy

PDFrust is free and subscription-free. To keep the site running we show ads via Google AdSense. Ads are only loaded if you give permission through the cookie banner.

Ads have no access to your files. The ad scripts run completely separately from the PDF processing. Your file never leaves your device, regardless of your ad settings.
